Human Factors: Considerations of why we make mistakes and how we can make it better Human factors is the study of people behave in response particular situations, environments, products and services. This session aims to introduce you to the theory of human factors, and how these influence the safety of your practice. To understand the what, when and why errors occur to enable the design of systems which reduce error occurrence. We will consider practical examples of error reduction systems employed by high risk areas such as the airline industry and nuclear power organisations and how these systems can be utilised in healthcare. Opportunity for discussions and shared learning of safe systems and personal experience of human factors. Sallianne Kavanagh is currently undertaking Health Education Fellowship for safe diabetes care. This post has included large scale review of incident reports and development of tools and education for reducing errors in insulin management. This session is suitable for people with an interest in safety and developing an improved safety culture. |
