Applications of AI in Pharmacy
Aditya Aggarwal, Pharmacist and Tech Advisor at Written Medicine, explored the rapidly evolving role of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in pharmacy and highlighted its potential to support healthcare professionals.
His presentation explained how AI technologies can assist with tasks such as medicines information, consultations, telemedicine and education, as well as helping to improve efficiency and patient care.
At the same time, Aditya stressed the importance of using AI responsibly, discussing challenges including AI ‘hallucinations’, inaccurate outputs, patient confidentiality, bias and professional accountability.
He also considered the emerging regulatory landscape and future developments that could make AI systems more reliable and transparent, as well as innovations such as Neurosymbolic AI, Graph Neural Networks and probabilistic deep learning.
His overall message was that AI is set to become an increasingly valuable partner for pharmacists, provided it is used thoughtfully, ethically and with appropriate clinical oversight.
