Creating successful teams (Working collaboratively – pharmacists working in new teams and breaking down organisational barriers)

John Chater, April 2026

Today, at PM Healthcare’s ICB/ICS Development & Medicines Strategy Forum, Stuart Maddocks (CEO, The Calibrate Group) presented an insightful session on what it takes to build successful, collaborative teams in complex healthcare environments, identifying areas of multidisciplinary working that delegates found most challenging.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration, not siloed working, if expectations around an integrated approach to ICB reform – into connected and coordinated integrated teams – are to be achieved.

The session focused on the realities of multidisciplinary working — including the challenges of communication, differing perspectives, and navigating difficult working relationships.

A key theme was the importance of effective leadership and understanding team dynamics. Effective collaboration requires adaptability, clarity of roles, and mutual respect. The session encouraged reflection on personal leadership style and how individuals contribute to team culture.
